DiGi-ART Kids Workshop @ Nikkei Matsuri
Presented with Nikkei Place Foundation
Saturday, August 31st: 12:00pm – 5:30pm | Sunday, September 1st: 2:00pm – 5:30pm
Nikkei Place (6888 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby BC)
$5 per class. Each class: 90 minutes

Saturday, August 31st

Time Age Workshop
12:00-1:30 6-8 Stop motion workshop with Kao & Kazuho
In this fun workshop, we will explore how to make a stop-motion video.
Using a computer and a video camera, children and the instructor will work together to take a large number of still photos to make a stop-motion video. This workshop will introduce children to acting and encourage the exploration of physical movement.
2:00-3:30 9-12 Design a cover of your drawing book! with Shumpei
In this workshop, child(ren) will design the cover of 32 pages drawing book.
Once they finish the draft of their image, those images will be transferred to the computer device(s) for coloring and cleaning up.
When all the process above have completed, those digitized images will be printed. Once it printed, child(ren) will sew/bind book together.
**Depending on the age of participated child(ren), book binding process will be strictly supervised or will be completed by instructor and/or by volunteer staff.
4:00-5:30 9-12 Claymation workshop with Kao & Kazuho
In this fun workshop, we will explore how to make a claymation.
Using a computer and a video camera, children and the instructor will work together to take a large number of still photos to make a claymation. This workshop will introduce children to create clay creature and how to the exploration of physical movement.

Time Age Workshop
2:00-3:30 6-8 Claymation workshop with Kao & Kazuho
In this fun workshop, we will explore how to make a claymation.
Using a computer and a video camera, children and the instructor will work together to take a large number of still photos to make a claymation. This workshop will introduce children to create clay creature and how to the exploration of physical movement.
4:00-5:30 9-12 Pouch & Totebag workshop with Fan-Ling
In this fun workshop, kids will design an original image of their favorite imaginary or real character. Together with the instructor they will cut out the image, and iron transfer the image directly onto cotton pouch.
Iron-transfers will be supervised and/or done by the instructor depending on the child’s age and ability.

Children and youth will deep into their imaginations at DiGi-ART, a fun-filled afternoon of hands-on workshops guaranteed to stimulate creativity and expand artistic horizons.

DiGi-ART invites kids ages 6 to 12 to learn new skills and express themselves artistically using digital technology – with practicing Japanese Canadian artists as the instructor.

DiGi-ART

Kids will unleash their wild, playful imaginations in this fun-filled and hands on workshop series! As the second volume of Powell Street Festival’s children art workshops, Digi-Art will feature classes that provide kids with the opportunity to express their creativity using digital technology. Children and youth will learn new techniques and skills from practicing artists Yoshinori Tanaka (photography), Makiko Yoshii (print, animation), and Kazuho Yamamoto (mixed media). Digi-Art features local Japanese Canadian artists teaching kids how to:

-Take portrait photos with their digital cameras like a pro
-Make a stop-motion video and using a mac laptop and video camera
-Sew, draw, and design their own pouch or plush toy
-Use simple skills in Adobe Photoshop, including toolbox, text, and layers
-Develop a storyboard to create a flipbook
-Make a whiteboard drawing animation using stop motion video
